GREAT PRODUCTION PARTNERS FOR MORE INNOVATION + SUSTAINABILITY

On the quest to new textile solutions

Since the beginning of our product development, we have relied on a high-quality and sustainable component in our products: special textile fibres made from wood. These fibres from our production partners Lenzing, which have become known under the TENCELTM brand, have shown to become a stroke of luck for us – and accordingly, our product portfolio with this component will soon be expanded. And of course, given this background, we did not hesitate for one second when Lenzing asked us to participate in their  “Earth Month” campaign during the month of April.

Optimizing sustainability along the entire value chain

Ensuring the sustainability and quality production of our materials – from raw materials to the final product – is a key characteristic of Muntagnard. However, working out the textile supply chain is extremely complex, demanding and time-consuming – a circumstance that repeatedly complicates and prolongs our development cycles of new products. Nevertheless, we spare no effort to take this additional task seriously in order to meet our own demands for transparent, sustainable and high-quality production.

Thus, we gladly accepted the invitation of our Austrian partner Lenzing in February 2020 in order to clarify our open questions regarding the extraction of textile fibres from wood and to be able to better understand the processes by means of a production tour. After all, it is still amazing and mindblowing for us to see how such a versatile fiber, which gives our T-shirt LEGNA this incredible lightness and silky softness, can be obtained from wood as a raw material.

Experiencing the production of our textile fibres at their birthplace

Our day at the Lenzing production facility began with a brief introduction to the various steps in fiber production. We appreciated the fact that we were able to clarify our detailed questions regarding the sustainability of the award-winning production process directly in a sympathetic conversation with Peter Bartsch, Head of Sustainability. We are impressed by how Lenzing intends to further improve its already exemplary status with holistically planned sustainability initiatives. Doris Overrath then introduced us to the different types of fibers available and other innovations. Andreas Gürtler rounded off the discussions with exciting current developments in the field of Active Wear clothing.

After these workshops we were able to enjoy a two-hour guided tour through the impressive factory grounds. By experiencing the debark of the wood directly through pulp production and fiber extraction, we were able to sharpen our theoretical understanding of the effective processes once again.

T-Shirt LEGNA returns to its origins

We were very pleased that our product, the LEGNA T-shirt, was met with a lot of interest within the Lenzing company. According to Sylvia Happel and Jutta Schörghuber, our partners, with whom we worked together closely and regularly, the LEGNA T-shirt is the only garment that consists of 100% TENCELTM Lyocell fibers. Including the whole production: from fabric to details, such as sewing thread or care labels.

We appreciate the fact that we have found Lenzing as a suitable, strong and reliable production partner who shares our values in terms of sustainability and quality. We are thus looking forward to working together during the Earth Month as well as on further collaborations.

A quick tip for you: By using the hashtag #checkwhatsgood, you can quickly find other brand partners who use TENCELTM fibers. Of course, we can strongly recommend you our T-shirt LEGNA. 😉
