JACKET LANA

The outer fabric is made of Swiss wool and the lining is a 100% wood-based fabric with beech wood from Europe. The Swiss deerskin is vegetable-tanned in Switzerland without the use of harmful chemicals. The buttons are made in Poland from corozo nuts.
The finished jacket is made in a small factory in Rothenthurm, Canton Schwyz.
This very short supply chain allows us optimal control over the individual work steps and allows us to optimize the transport routes and the recyclability of the materials.

THE WOOL PRODUCERS

The main players in our wool supply chain are the Swiss sheep, more precisely the white alpine sheep. This high-quality wool is only sheared once a year in order to obtain long enough fibers for the production of our Muntagnard Swiss LANA fabric. The shorn wool is collected from farmers throughout Switzerland by our partner wollsein and brought to Huttwil, where it is sorted and transported from there to a laundry, where the wool is washed according to GOTS standards.

YARN PRODUCTION

Our washed wool then arrives in northern Italy (Biella), where a small family business, which has specialized in the manufacture of high-quality wool yarns, takes over the next very important production steps. Before the wool can be twisted and spun into the desired yarn, it must be carded in order to be able to obtain the finest possible yarn. Stefano and his father have decades of experience in the production of yarns of the highest quality and understand how to handle such a complex and unique raw material as our Swiss wool.

THE WEAVING

In the nearby weaving mill, our finely spun wool yarns are brought together to create the woven fabric to create the characteristic weave structure of our Muntagnard Swiss LANA fabric. Usually Nicola and his business partner produce fabrics for the Italian luxury brands and the company has a long tradition in processing wool yarns into high-quality fabrics. In addition to their openness and joy in developing new solutions, this gave us the necessary certainty that our precious wool is in the right hands.

THE DYERY

The final step in fabric manufacturing is dyeing and finishing the fabric. In Strona, just a few kilometers from the previous production facilities, we have found a great dye works that not only specializes in dyeing and finishing woolen fabrics, but also adheres to very high environmental standards in its processes (GOTS-certified). In numerous experiments and developments with different colors and finishing techniques, we have found a sensible and above all environmentally friendly solution to give the fabric a certain functionality. Instead of treating the finished fabric chemically in order to achieve additional softness or water repellency, we opted for a special thermal treatment (only water and heat) in order to achieve a water-repellent functionality and the special feel of our Muntagnard Swiss LANA fabric.

Swiss deerskin

SWISS DEER LEATHER

Well over 10,000 wild red deer are hunted in Switzerland every year. Some claim it is necessary to regulate the deer population, others disagree and believe nature will find a way to regulate itself. Regardless of the correct or incorrect answer, until recently a large proportion of the red deer skins that were produced were disposed of and burned. The remaining hides simply weren’t used and thousands of these beautiful deer hides were thrown away as waste. Since 2017, a small group of entrepreneurs from Cervo Volante has started to collect some of these deer hides from hunters and local butchers in Switzerland in order to refine this valuable raw material into high-quality and sustainable leather. The production process takes place entirely in Switzerland – from vegetable tanning to cutting and laser engraving of the pieces of leather.
