- algae
Seaweed is a naturally regenerative resource. They grow in large numbers under the sea, so fresh water is not needed during the growth phase. The required algae are only harvested in Iceland every four years so that they can fully regenerate in the meantime. - Wood-based fibers
The wood pulp is converted into lyocell (a bio-based textile fibre), which is produced in a closed-loop production process – a process that recycles water and reuses up to 99% of the solvents used. This means there is very little waste and the fibers are biodegradable in the right conditions. Since the wood required grows without artificial irrigation and pesticides and can also be grown on dry soil, this material embodies a very sensible and sustainable solution for us. - Recycled cotton
Our current most sensible solution for cotton is to use recycled cotton, which is made from reused production waste and discarded textiles.
Wellness for your skin with the algae sweatshirt
- Raw material : 33% organic cotton, 33% recycled cotton (production leftovers), 33% wood and seaweed fibres
- Rib: Elastic ribs made of wood fibers and biodegradable elastane (C2C certified)
- Fabric: Softly brushed surface for maximum comfort
- Pocket: Hidden pockets with side entry at front
- Branding : Subtle print with the Muntagnard logo on the left sleeve and Muntagnard wordmark under the right arm.
- Manufacturing : Yarn, fabric and final manufacture in Portugal
- Size : The model is 168cm tall and wears a size S.
- Transport routes reduced to a minimum , as the value chain is completely European
- Significant water savings through innovative materials such as wood, algae and recycled cotton compared to traditional textile fibers
- Recycled cotton: The use of recycled cotton saves several thousand liters of water per kilogram of cotton and significantly reduces energy consumption. One could argue that this fiber has already been produced and therefore required a lot of water and energy in the production. However, since the fiber is thus saved from being thrown away, this solution makes enormous sense for us and points the way to the future.
- Bluesign certified fabric manufacturing
- Wash at 40°C or lower
- Hang or best lay flat to dry
- If necessary, iron at medium temperature
- Do not bleach

Textile innovation
meets natural functionality.
With seaweed and wood to the most comfortable fabric.
With the so-called Lyocell technology, a cellulose-based fiber is produced. This lyocell fiber then serves as a “working substrate” for the algae. The addition of algae as an active ingredient has a very good reason. This seaweed is rich in trace elements and seaweed has also been shown to have protective and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin.
Their textile properties also offer advantages such as breathability, softness and good moisture management.
Ideal combination
Wood and algae based fibers for a wonderful softness and delicacy. Additional robustness through cotton.
Breathable, hardly odor-sensitive and biologically harmless thanks to nature-based fibers.
Transparent supply chain
The fabric is knitted, dyed and finished near Braga (Portugal). Not far from here, in Vila das Aves, the products are sewn together before they are shipped to Switzerland. You can find out more about our producers here .

traceability
Apart from the exact origin of the certified organic cotton and the yarn producers, we know all partners and work steps along the entire supply chain.
recyclable
The cotton, wood & algae fibers are biodegradable; the 2% elastane in the ribs and waistband are also ” Cradle to Cradle Certified® “. Except for the elastane, everything is completely recyclable.
Ecological Impact
Through the recycling of cotton, the use of wood and algae fibers and sustainable production practices, we achieve around a halving of the ecological impact compared to conventionally produced cotton sweaters.
