WHAT DOES SWISSNESS/SWISS-MADE MEAN FOR US (IN 1 MIN.)?

We often get asked where we produce our clothes. After all, if you want to be sustainable, you should have your products manufactured as close as possible – in our case this would logically be Switzerland. But what significance does Swiss Made and Switzerland have for us and our products?

As native Swiss with roots in Grisons, we feel a strong bond to our country and would like to promote the local economy as much as possible. Also because of our comprehensive sustainability approach, there is much that speaks for local production. In addition, our development over the last 3 years has taught us a lot about Switzerland as a production location and partner. Although Swiss partners are usually substantially more expensive, they are also very reliable, precise, responsible and forward-looking. In many respects we have learned to incredibly appreciate having a Swiss development and production partner. Besides the proximity and uncomplicated communication, it is the passion for innovative and sustainable solutions that we definitely feel as a connecting element. But how much Swiss Made is still possible today and what does it mean? At Muntagnard we focus on as much Swiss Made as possible, but also only as much as is sensible for us and the respective product. We are firmly convinced that products and supply chains must be viewed holistically nowadays and that a simple “made in” is no longer sufficient. If our raw material for our T-shirts comes from Europe and we have an innovative and responsible production partner for the fabric in Europe, then it makes perfect sense for us to align and optimise the final manufacturing according to these upstream production steps. However, if, for example, a South American raw material is manufactured to a fabric in Asia, but the final confection takes place in Switzerland to suggest Swissness, then we do not see this as a path that we would like to take and represent. Swissness and Swiss Made brings many advantages in our opinion, but the supply chain must be explained transparently as well as evaluated and optimized individually for each product. In the future, we will offer products “Made in Switzerland”, but only if it makes sense for us, the product and the market from a quality, economic and sustainability point of view.
